Cool Gadget - MP3 FM Modulator
I’ve just recently bought a cool little gadget for Julea. Since Julea’s car comes with a standard car player, I’ve decided to get something that can adapt her MP3 players to her existing car stereo system.
So I got her this nifty little gadget, it’s a MP3 FM Modulator. Yes, a MP3 FM Modulator. Probably most of you would have heard or even seen it before but this gadget is so cool that it deserves a re-introduction.

This FM Modulator plays all your audio devices wirelessly through your car stereo system and turns any USB memory drive into MP3 player. It comes with 7 FM modulator presets that a local radio station is not broadcasting on.
What you see here are the few devices that I pluged in into the FM Modulator.

So how to use it?
For USB memory drive :
1) Plug FM Modulator into vehicle’s 12 Volt adaptor.
2) Plug your USB drive into FM Modulator’s USB port.
3) Select one of the 7 FM Modulator Presets that a local radio station is not broadcasting on.
4) Tune your car stereo to the same FM freqeuncy as the FM Modulator.
5) Press the PLAY button and the music transmit to the vehicle’s stereo system.
For use with MP3, CD, or DVD player :
1) Plug FM Modulator into vehicle’s 12 Volt adaptor.
2) Using the provided audio cable, plug your MP3, CD, DVD player or rather audio devices into the FM Modulator’s stereo jack.
3) Select one of the 7 FM Modulator Presets that a local radio station is not broadcasting on.
4) Tune your car stereo to the selected FM Presets and enjoy the music from your audio devices.
I tell you, this device may not be the best invented gadget but it’s really cool for those who does and doesn’t own a car CD player.
I got this gadget from Studio 78, AsiaCafe for a reasonable price of RM150. As for the quality of the sound/music, it’s almost as good as you’re playing a CD…well, almost. Not bad indeed

Studio 78 is on the first floor of AsiaCafe which is located right infront of Taylor’s/Inti College, SS15 Subang Jaya.

wow, this is a really cool gadget. I almost wanted to go to Brothers and get them to install the new radio with USB which they claimed to be the first to invent it. But it cost RM 399. This thing you view is a lot cheaper but only one problem to me is, my car radio’s FM tuner is bit damage. dunno if I can tune it.
The frequency that u show, 87.70, is that a frequency that no local radio is using right now? coz if it is, I’ll try to tune my radio to it. If I success, I shall purchase that thing. I already have a thumbdrive (not necessary an MP3 thumbdrive, right? any thumbdrive will do?)
Yes Sherrina, any USB pen/thumb/flash drive will do.
The channel FM87.7 is one of the FM PRESETS from the FM Emulator. They are 6 more PRESETS to choose from. If your car is just right beside mine, you’ll probably get to tune in whatever I’m listening to
You will need a reasonably good tuner, else you’ll get sound distortions just like tuning in to radio on a bad weather. Fix it if possible, else go for a second hand cassette car stereo and you can still enjoy tons of music! Good luck!
erm. don’t kill me yeah. midvalley was selling it for RM 115. OK I GO DUCK NOW.
I bought mine for RM 120. That’s over a month ago.
Alamak, so many holes to plug.
Last time (10-15yrs ago) they have this device where u can output from the headphone slot. Instead of a ear/head phone, it becomes a “fake Cassette”.
All you need is to push in the “fake cassette” in your car audio.
minishorts : Bummer
But the price I told you is retail price. I got mine on a discount
I can’t be setting the price for them right ?
ahdave : I know bout that. I was looking for that but found this as a better alternative. I can plug in USB drive which the conventional CD-Cassette adaptor can’t.
so getting a chau pneah cd player cheaper or getting this emulator thingy cheaper?
i blogged abt this too last month or something, but your review is much much better than mine. heh!
btw, i bought mine for RM90.
galvin.. what about your car player??? must be some canggih stuff~leh
so rich got ipod, sien
jojo : A cheap player still cost about the same price…and that you can only play CD’s. No more choices.
dSaint : Guess I missed your post then. Else I could have bought it at your price.
jack0 : I don’t own a car player anymore. If do remember me telling that someone broke into my car and stole my car player!! http://blog.galvintan.com/?p=78
I tried the FM Emulator on Julea’s car stereo…a standard cassette player.
KY : yeah…sien…she got iPod. But you’ve got an iPond !!!
mini short,
can u tell me which shop in mid valley selling that thing at RM 115?
galvin,
that thing, does it have a brand name? It will be easier for me to look around for it…
Sherrina : Unfortuntely, it doesn’t have a specific brand name as it is made in Chine product. Just the product name called ‘MP3 FM Modulator’. I don’t know where to get it from Mid Valley but you can try getting from where I got it from. Ask for a discount.
Sounds cool man!
The brand name of the one I have is VR3
I purchased it at Wal-Mart.com
It is on sale at the current pcfair until 7-8-05 at KLCC hall. 3 different sellers ranging from rm105.00 to rm100.00. I find that channel 88.9 works best for me.
Galvin,
I worried about sound quality..any harming?
ecom : The sound quality is pretty good. It sounds better if your FM reception is good. Quality of player can be a factor too.
The sound quality of the player you see in my posting here is not as good compared to the new cd player I tried in a Vios.
If everything else is good. I would say the sound quality is just a notch below direct CD playing and many times better than cassette deck.
j’ai un probleme avec se modulator mp3 car il marche normal sauf que il ya pas de son es que vous pouvais m’aide svp merci
such a cool device..thanks for the review !
