In the next few days,all Malaysians will be celebrating our country’s 48th Merdeka Anniversary. Every year,the nation never miss the event. It is a very important event in the life of a Malaysian. However it means different things to different people. To our ancestors and the elderly who fought for it, it is a moment of tears and joy. But what is the meaning of Merdeka to most people who were born after Merdeka?

I was definitely born after Merdeka. Back in school, we learnt about our history. Legendary stories being told from generation to generation. But never could I understand the true meaning of independence. Nevertheless, I’ve learnt much from the world of today. The wars, the hunger and poverty…Man who fought the whole entire world just to stay free. I never knew what freedom is…because I am free. The freedom that our ancestors fought for many decades ago. Now I am thankful…for the peaceful and harmonious multi-racial country I lived in. Although I may not truly understand the meaning Merdeka but I know I’m now living in it.
