High price to pay for offering to Heavenly God
Every 9th day of the first lunar month, the hokkien community will set out for a night of grand prayer to the Heavenly God. It is a ritual that has been going of for ages and it usually include lots of offerings and loud firecrackers.
Unfortunately for us, the presense of firecrackers which can usually be found over at pasar malams are a rare sight. Since our government banned firecrackers entirely, we no longer have the luxury of having loud blasting sound of fireworks and firecrackers.

I read The Star newspaper yesterday and I came across this article on StarMetro. It was basically an article telling how the hokkien community celebrated this auspicious event. The article also feature the Ooi family and as you can see from the scanned clipping above, you can tell that they are one happy family.
It was really nice of the Ooi family to be willing to share and allow The Star staffs into their homes. Perhaps Mr. Ooi thought that their faces will be on a newspaper and it’ll be cool. But what they didn’t realised is that they’ll be caught red-handed too!
Check out this image below

Those red bits and pieces on the floor… yep…you got it, it’s the left over from burned firecrackers!

let me defend them:
Aiyah! that one, very old photo one….. not this year one.
Lol I didn’t even noticed it when I read about it XD
If it were me, my defense would be
“Feeding the lions (lion dance) flowers ma…very ong (red/good luck) you know!!”
-Laughs-
Haha, the problem is, I don’t think the Ooi family even realise it.
-waves hands over her head-
Yoo hoo!! Ooi family!! You been busted!!
Maybe they sprinkle red confettis. Hah!
