What’s on during the weekend?

It was the last week of CNY and I spent it over in BM with Julea and her family. It was a nice trip up north where we spent most of our time playing cards and watching movie.

Chap Goh Mei (15th day of the lunar month) marks the last day of chinese new year. The chinese community believes that Chap Goh Mei is the chinese version of Valentine’s Day. During the old days, young unmarried women will toss tangerines into the sea in hope that their future spouse will pick it up. Today, in the modernised community, the women will toss mandarin oranges into the nearby lakes. They will usually write their mobile number or even email address hopefully that some guy will call or write up. Haha, silly isn’t it. If they really want to be picked up, I would suggest that they toss pomelos instead of mandarin oranges. It’s way bigger and much more eye-catching! This reminds me of a stunt pulled by my two joker friends during last year’s Chap Goh Mei. KY and Ah Horng actually took a make-shift boat (made out of KY’s used fiberglass tank) and start rowing into the middle of Taman Jaya lake and hauled lotsa oranges! Damn, those ladies must be cursing!

It’s really funny when you pull such an unexpected stunt but it’s rather dangerous too. Lucky for both of them; being Penangites, they do know how to swim… just in case.

I, Julea and her youngest sister, Ching went over to Gurney to catch a movie. We actually booked Dreamgirls but I refused to watch the movie because I can never see Beyonce being a good singer and a good actress at the same time. So we watched It’s a Wonderful Life instead. It’s a comedy starring Ronald Cheng, Tony Leung and many other casts from Shaolin Soccer. It’s so much better than the stupid House of Mahjong. It’s a Wonderful Life is a heart warming movie and it’s a message to everyone that there are still saints and guardian angels looking after us. All we need to do is to WISH.

On our way to Gurney, I caught this picture of a CRV (above) with a clothe hanger hanging on the rear wiper. Decided to send it in to TheStar and it came out today in Thumbnails. Didn’t win anything but it was sure funny.

I definitely had an enjoyable weekend. Too bad CNY came and gone so fast. But I do look forward to the new 2007 and hopefully everyone will too have a successful and happy year ahead.

Here’s wishing everyone ‘May All Your Dreams Come True!’
