Kitchen Fire Prevention

I’ve been noticing an enormous increase of food blogs and food bloggers recently. Some just loves to eat and some loves to cook.

For myself, I’m not a food blogger but I love to eat. I do blog about hokkien food every now and then but not as many like our femmes food blogger, KY. Now KY blogs about food he eats and food he cooks. I’m sure there’s many more food bloggers who love to cook at home too. Cooking can be fun and can be very dangerous too if you do not practise caution.

When I was younger, my dad always reminded me to turn of the gas and the safety valve whenever I’m done cooking my favourite Maggi Me. I never really knew why then but as I grew older, I found out that many fire outbreaks started out from a harmless kitchen stove fire.

Question is, “What do you do when there’s a kitchen fire?”

For those who love cooking at home, I came across this video clip which I think can be very useful information for everyone.

If your cook pan catches fire, don’t panic. Just follow these instructions:

1) Turn off the heat
2) Run a clothe under a tap and drain it out
3) Cover the pan and then wait until it’s cool right down.

The effects can be devastating!

Wild Hogs – Born To Ride

Now here’s another movie review on Wild Hogs.

Went over to One Utama during the weekend to catch a movie. Couldn’t get TMNT so we decided to watch Wild Hogs instead and it was excellent!

Wild Hogs

Never had such a good laugh for such a long time. Wild Hogs is comedy about 4 middle-aged friends who are struggling with mid-life crisis. They seek for the true meaning of life and freedom. They share the same passion for bikes and rides together as “Wild Hogs”.  Tired of their mundane suburban routine, they decided to go on a free-wheeling trip away from the busy city live.

Wild HogsWild Hogs

Starring John Travolta(Woody), Martin Lawrence(Bobby), funnyman Tim Allen (Doug) and William Macy(Dudley) together with few other stars, they whipped up a good blend of pure comedy fun.  The best part of the movie is Marissa Tomei who plays Maggie in the movie. I adore her a lot and she’s hotter than ever now. Perhaps this is what they called “Scent of a Woman”?

Marissa Tomei

Ok, enough with Marissa Tomei and back to the show. The whole story is about four of them, set out for a once-in-a-lifetime experience for freedom on the open road, encounters more than what they expected. The road trip challenged their wits and their lucks, especially when they got into trouble with the real-deal biker group called the Del Fuegos. Everything just went bonkers after that.

Wild HogsWild Hogs

A movie worth watching with your family and friends. I’ll probably watch it again when I do get the chance.

Makan Hokkien Mee at Restoran Aik Yuen, Setapak

Here’s another review on my favourite Hokkien Mee. We decided to drive down to KL during the weekend for some good hokkien mee and we ended up in Setapak, at this restaurant right behind Tawakal Hospital. The name of the restaurant is Restoran Aik Yuen.

Restoran Aik Yuen

Restoran Aik Yuen is famous for its deep-fried homemade fish cake and hokkien mee. You can see almost every table will have at least the hokkien mee and fish cakes served. The reason why I decided to go there it’s because of the yummy ‘saito‘ fish cake. It’s crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. One bite is never enough.

Fish Cake

Aik Yuen is also famous for its hokkien mee and fried lala. Now I’ve tried so many hokkien mee stalls in Klang Valley so far, Aik Yuen is still one of my favourite. This is because they always give a generous amount of chu yau cha(fried pork lard)!.

Hokkien Mee

And for their fried lala, it’s the best so far. I love the slightly spicy sweet and sour sauce for the lala. It’s da bomb! I find that the fried lala is much better than Restoran Mey Yen in Paramount(will blog about that later). The sweet and sour sauce compliments the lala and the garlic and cili padi makes the dish more interesting! The sauce is so good that I just couldn’t resist dipping my fish cake into it.

Fried Lala

Restoran Aik Yuen is uniquely special. Even though they have an existing physical outlet, they still prefer to prepare their food outdoor. There are 3 cooks working the woks, 2 of them will be cooking all the noodle dishes and the other one will be preparing the fried lalas and fish cakes.

Outdoor Kitchen

They will serve anyone as long as there’s enough space for more tables along the street right infront of the restaurant. We were there until 10pm and there are barely any empty tables available. It’s full all the time so you have to be patient and wait around.

Overall, the food is really good. The hokkien mee is just nice, sticky and black and the lala… the best! The saito fish cake is good but slightly expensive. Anyways, who cares as long as our stomachs are happy. Just take a look at the happy patrons.

The bill came up to RM38 for one hokkien mee (big), one fried lala (med), 2 pieces of fried fish cakes 4 glasses of herbal tea. Slightly more expensive from what we can usually get in PJ but it’s not that we go down to KL all the time for makan. Highly recommended if you want to bring your friends for some good hokkien mee and fried lala.

Messi scores goal of the year. As good as Maradona or better?

It is yet another memorable moment when FC BARCELONA defeated GETAFE 5 – 2 in this 1º leg clash, & gave the Football World an incredible goal by MESSI that will go down in history as one of the best. It is being compared to the 1986 World Cup goal by Maradona.

Outrageously similar? What Messi needs now is to score a goal with his hand!

Mind-Blowing Human Beat Box

This is a series of videos of Joseph the Human Beat Box from Nouvelle Star.

Nouvelle Star (a.k.a. A La Recherche De La Nouvelle Star for the first season) is a French reality television show based on the popular British show Pop Idol.

No be prepared to be blown away by Joseph.

I uploaded this to YouTube.

Knockoff Showdown

For years, China has been copying and manufacturing the world’s best products, from China’s Chery QQ which has a surprising similarity to the Chevy Spark and the Laiboa SR-V which looks like Honda CR-V’s twin brother. China has been openly stealing from the world.

Chery QQ and Chevy Spark

SR-V and CR-V

But little do I know that the west is also stealing from China too. I spotted something familiar in the recent Spring 2007 Ready-to-Wear Louis Vuitton – Runway show.

Here’s the new Louis Vuitton collection by Marc Jacobs.

The new Louis Vuitton collection by Marc Jacobs

The leadoff accessories on LV’s Paris runway were plastic tote bags marked with a Louis Vuitton travel stamp. Now here’s the funny part. These bags remind me of those cheap bags that you can find everywhere in the streets of China. LOL, what a knockoff!

Ferrari Back On Track

It’s been quite a happening weekend. Last week alone we saw Man United trashed AS Roma 7-1 to proceed to the semis in the UEFA Champions League. Then Man United beat Watford to proceed into the final against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Yesterday, thanks to Massa, Ferrari is back on track and in the running for the no.1 seat for the F1 2007 Constructors Championship.

Though I’m a BMW supporter, that doesn’t mean I don’t like Ferrari. I’m glad that they are back in the running for the No. 1 seat.

Ferrari Bucket Seats

As for now, the only seat I want is this baby for my future Galvin ‘Schumacher’ Jr. Hehe :)

Yet Another Creative Way to Advertise

I’ve seen plenty of those creative ad imageries from the Internet and I’ve seen some in real. Here’s yet another one of those creative ads that I came across not long ago on Federal Highway.

It was a usual drive on Federal Highway from Klang to Subang when this 4×4 overtook me when I was approaching Subang toll. Something at the back of the truck quickly caught my attention and I had a good laugh. Can’t help it not to take this priceless photo.

Very creative indeed!

Unfortunately, with this kind of copywriting, I doubt he can ever find anyone to buy this 4×4. But then again. Why not? LOL!!!

Makan at Restoran Fei Loh Hokkien Mee, SS2 PJ

Here’s a review on the new Fei Loh Hokkien Mee in SS2, PJ.

Being a Klangite, I’m quite an eater especially for hokkien dishes. Besides the famous Klang Bah Kut Teh, I do like other hokkien food too. When I was passing through SS2 about a week ago, something in bright blue caught my attention. Last night, I just couldn’t resist when I saw the new shop is already in business and they are serving my favourite Hokkien Mee!

Fei Loh

The shop is just located along the same roll with AFFIN-ISLAMIC Bank and it’s two shops away from SS2 Teo Chew porridge shop and the new Korean BBQ shop (formerly Foh San Restaurant branch). Kind of hard to miss it if you’re a frequent user of the road from SS14 passing thru to SS3 in PJ.

Fei Loh

The shop is brightly lighted and very cosy, that’s because they had all their aircons and ceiling fans running… for now. The deco of the shop is fairly impressive but it’s definitely nicer than the other ordinary hokkien mee shops. With the wooden tables and nice clean environment, dining there is quite comfortable. The have about 20 tables in the shop and each table can comfortably fit 4 people.

There’s only 2 of us and I wasn’t feeling very hungry so we only ordered 2 dishes, Hokkien Mee and Yin Yong Kung Fu Chow (Yin Yong Cantonese style). Oh yes, they just started business on April 6 and they are having a promo till the 16th. So any single portion dish of noodle only cost RM3. Reasonbly cheap for a plate of noodle nowadays.

Fei Loh, the boss himself took our order. Sadly, their service is rather sluggish. After waiting for 10 minutes, we still haven’t got our drinks. They even forgot our orders and had to come over to take it again. After another good 10 minutes of more, the food came.

Fei Loh Hokkien Mee and Yin Yong

The hokkien mee looks rather good (dry and slightly sticky) and the yin yong too look really good. The presentation of the food is rather nice with generous amount of pork, shrimps, sotong (squid), cabbage and most importantly, chu yau cha (fried pork lard).

Fei Loh

Though both dishes look good but sadly there’s nothing to shout about. Both dishes taste rather ordinary so we didn’t finish everything. For someone who enjoys food, I’ve tried much better hokkien mee and yin yong in some other parts of Klang Valley.

Amy eating Fei Loh hokkien mee

Amy, who was much hungrier than me wasn’t quite satisfied with the food either. You can tell from the look on her face :P

Although it’s not up to my standard, Fei Loh Hokkien Mee might appeal to others. So you don’t have to take my words for it. The bill came up to RM9.50 for 2 plates of noodle, a glass of iced soya cincau and a cup of hot tea which is rather reasonable. The only thing I like about the place is the nice clean environment. Fei Loh, the owner was quite a humble person too. Perhaps I should give it a second try one day since they have other dishes that I haven’t tried especially the fried lala.

Fei Loh Boss

Here’s the owner, he really lives up to his name :)
