Beng Huat Asam Fish Chicken Rice, as its name would suggest, is no ordinary restaurant selling chicken rice only. Unlike many chicken rice stalls you would fine in Kuala Lumpur, Beng Huat also serves some pretty kickass ‘asam fish’ and a variety of side dishes such as tau kua, Taiwanese sausages, deep-fried chicken wings, eggs, sweet and sour veg and chicken gizzards too. Beng Huat is our preferred lunch place whenever we’re back in Bukit Mertajam, Penang to visit my in-laws.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this place is that they serve asam soup, with all the ingredients like those you’d find in a Penang asam laksa soup – it will definitely whet your appetite.
They only serve roast (or rather deep fried) chicken – the deep fried chicken wings and drumsticks are a must have. They are fried to perfection and goes really well with their homemade chicken broth-soya sauce. Well, the homemade sauce basically goes with every side dish they serve. I won’t be complete with the sauce.
Beside the chicken, our favourite side-dishes would be deep-fried ‘tau-kua’, fish balls and Taiwanese sausages. For me, it would be a complete lunch with another extra bowl of its fragrant oil rice – which is really tasty, even on its own.
Food a service is always good, so I would definitely recommend coming to this place to try it out. Price is pretty reasonable too – it’s Seberang Perai, food is always cheaper here than in Kuala Lumpur!
