BENG HUAT ASAM FISH CHICKEN RICE RESTAURANT

Beng Huat Asam Fish Chicken Rice, as its name would suggest, is no ordinary restaurant selling chicken rice only. Unlike many chicken rice stalls you would fine in Kuala Lumpur, Beng Huat also serves some pretty kickass ‘asam fish’ and a variety of side dishes such as tau kua, Taiwanese sausages, deep-fried chicken wings, eggs, sweet and sour veg and chicken gizzards too. Beng Huat is our preferred lunch place whenever we’re back in Bukit Mertajam, Penang to visit my in-laws.

Beng Huat Asam Fish Chicken Rice is located in Chai Leng Park and there are two restaurants operating under the same name nearby. The original restaurant is just a few blocks away and it’s operated by the eldest brother. The one that we usually go for lunch is operated by the younger brother because the place is not as cluttered as and more airy than the original restaurant – and for some reason, my in-laws prefer this place than the former.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this place is that they serve asam soup, with all the ingredients like those you’d find in a Penang asam laksa soup – it will definitely whet your appetite.

YUMMY DEEP FRIED CHICKEN WINGS & DRUMSTICKS

They only serve roast (or rather deep fried) chicken – the deep fried chicken wings and drumsticks are a must have. They are fried to perfection and goes really well with their homemade chicken broth-soya sauce. Well, the homemade sauce basically goes with every side dish they serve. I won’t be complete with the sauce.

Beside the chicken, our favourite side-dishes would be deep-fried ‘tau-kua’, fish balls and Taiwanese sausages. For me, it would be a complete lunch with another extra bowl of its fragrant oil rice – which is really tasty, even on its own.

SATISFACTION

Food a service is always good, so I would definitely recommend coming to this place to try it out. Price is pretty reasonable too – it’s Seberang Perai, food is always cheaper here than in Kuala Lumpur!
