Hokkien Kwa - Ooi Ho Li Ai Tio Pa Lang (Su Su Liam Liam)

Here’s another one of my favourite hokkien song, Ooi Ho Li Ai Tio Pa Lang (為何你愛著別人) or better known to some people as the Su Su Liam Liam song. It simply means Why Are You Loving Someone Else. Just thought I would share it with all the hokkien lang out there.

Hope you like this one too. Enjoy :)

Hokkien Kwa - Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua

Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua (一支小雨伞) or A Small Umbrella is also another very popular hokkien song to the hokkien community.

I recalled my cousin John’s wedding dinner, his friends had put on a little sketch/song just especially for him and his newly wed wife, Jocelyn. The song was none other than Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua and we sang together and had a good laugh.

Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua is indeed a very sweet hokkien love song. Been trying to learn this song, hopefully when that day comes, I too can sing it to Julea :P LOL

Here’s the lyrics to Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua. To those who don’t understand hokkien, I’ve include the translation(Pinyin) for the lyrics, hopefully it’ll come useful to you one da :) ENJOY.

Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua (一支小雨伞) Lyrics

咱二人
Na Neng Lang
Two of us

做阵拿着一支小雨伞
Jhue Din Ghia Tio Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua
Together holding a small umbrella

雨越大
Hor Lu Tua
Rain is getting heavier

我来照顾你你来照顾我
Gua Lai Jiao Ko Li, Li Lai Jioa Ko Gua
I will take care of you, and you will take care of me

虽然双人行相偎
Swee Dian Siang Lang Kia Sio Uaw
Although both of us walk so close

遇着风雨这呢大
Du Dio Hong Hor Jia Ni Tua
Met strong wind and rain

嵌坎小路又歹行
Orh Am Sio Lor Lu Pai Kia
Dark alley getting hard to walk

咱着小心行
Nan Dio Sio Sim Kia
We must walk with care

你甲我
Li Ga Gua
You and me

做阵拿着一支小雨伞
Jhue Tin Ghia Dio Ji Ki Sio Hor Sua
Together holding a small umbrella

雨越大
Hor Lu Tua
Rain is getting heavier

渥甲淡糊糊心情也快活
Ark Ka Tham Kor Kor Sim Jeng Ah Khui Wa
Even though drenched we are still in a merry mood

Learn To Speak Hokkien

I swear a lot, I admit.

Swearing is good, it’s another way of anger management. I chose to swear than to pick a fight. Of course, some may say that this is such a cowardly act, but I beg to differ.

You see, swearing increases my vocabulary, especially when I swear in different dialect. Since my school days, I often hang around with a lot of machas. Until today, I still have a lot of Indian friends at my work place. Eventually, I picked up quite a number of words from them. Well, let’s not share what I’ve learned from them. Instead, I would like teach them some Hokkien words in return.

Let’s begin with Lesson #1:

Ok great lesson there! Now if you’re familiar with all the words in Lesson 1, let’s proceed to Lesson #2

Lesson #2:

I hope these simple lessons will benefit my fellow friends who taught me so many wonderful words. Let’s keep spreading the joy :)

Cheers and happy learning!! ;)

I’m a responsible citizen

Had a late night, woke up about noon and had lunch. Chill for a couple and hour at home before I head out to vote at 3 PM.

At 3.15 PM, I casted my vote at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Tamil), Jalan Meru and it all took me less than 10 minutes to do so. My mind is clear and I already know who to vote for.

Let’s hope for the best! Good luck, Malaysia!

Chinese New Year and Black Jack 21

A big Kong Hey Fatt Choy to all my fellow friends who follow my blog. Wishing everyone good health, good wealth and properity! It’s ‘ByeBye Piggy’ and ‘Hello Mickey’

The year of the mouse ushers a different beginning into my new year. It was a different ‘Chor Yat‘ or ‘Chuay It‘ (1st day of CNY) for me this year. I spent most of my day at home with my family. It’s also the first time I did not touch a single deck of card on the first day of Chinese New Year.

Gambling during CNY is a norm in Malaysia. We chinese gamble quite a bit during this festive season to ’see’ what luck lies ahead of us this year. Well, I definitely get to see my luck and it’s pretty good because I did not lose any money :)

Spent the rest of my day having dinner with some family and friends and movie after that. It was definitely a different CNY for me this time. Perhaps I’m getting… older :p

I’m pretty sure its gonna be my last year that I’m gonna be receiving ang pows from my family and relatives.

According to some people, the year of ‘Mickey’ is good for us Dragons. I’m getting pretty skeptical will all these feng shui and fortune hoo haa but I’m really hoping this year it will bring a carry truth in it.

Oh ya, I lost my phone and my entire phone list recently. So to some of my friends, if you did not receive any forwarded festive sms greetings from me, it’s not that I’ve forgotten you or do not put you in heart, it’s because I can’t. But anyways, here’s wishing every Gong Xi Fa Cai, Kong Hey Fatt Choy and Kiong Hee Huat Chai!

Wishing all 21s and Ban-Bans to go your the way :)
