To Leonidas and the brave 300

A review on the movie ‘300′. Sunday was a good day to catch a movie and I decided to watch 300. I got to know about the movie somewhere back in November 2006, watched the trailer and felt instantly in love with the movie. Finally, another great movie since Gladiator, which is one of my favourite movies too.

300

Based on the epic graphic novel by Frank Miller, “300″ is a ferocious retelling of the ancient Battle of Thermopylae in which King Leonidas and 300 Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the invader in one of history’s most famous last stands.

300 (2006) - Gerard Butler

I’ll leave the historical bit to your own reading. Let me tell you what I don’t like about the movie most… NOTHING! Yes, I love every bit of the movie. From the cinematography to the fight scenes, It’s just awesome! You just can’t deny Frank Miller’s awesome work that totally inspired the whole movie. This ancient historic tale was uniquely told by combining live action with virtual background, a distinct vision of Frank Miller who is also the man behind Sin City.

300

Personally I think that 300 is the best film of its kind. It’s got a faster pace than Lord Of The Rings, is more accurate than Troy, more compelling than Tristan and Isolde, and more violent than Gladiator. This movie so far deserves the academy award for best picture and without a doubt deserves the academy award for best cinematography for the originality and sheer beauty put into it’s visuals.

300

The fight scenes are awesome! The stunts are nicely pulled off without much exaggeration. Ok, what do you consider as exaggerated stunts? Hmm… lemme think. Yes… Dragon Tiger Gate. That’s exaggerating! There’s no flying Spartans or Persians but there’s quite alot of weird character appearing from the Persian troop. There’s even on weird monster that looks like Pudge, a hero character from Warcraft (DOTA).

300 (2006) - Lena Headey

I can’t imagine anyone else making a better King Leonidas other than Gerard Butler (Phantom of the Opera). His built frame and strong feature makes him the best candidate as King Leonidas. Lena Headey (The Brother Grimm), who plays a good role as Queen Gorgo, the King’s beloved wife. There’s also Dominic Theron, who plays a corrupted politian who betrayed the King and Greece. He tried to manipulate the queen but got killed in the end with a sword piercing through his body by the queen herself. Xerxes, a tyrant and self-proclaimed King of Kings and Lord of the Gods, is played by Rodrigo Santoro. Rodrigo is a tall good looking Brazilian actor but he looks really faggity acting as Xerxes. Perhaps that’s how the producer wants him to be.

300

If you have watched Lord Of The Rings, you would probably remember Faramir, which was played by David Wenham. He acted as Dilios, one of the brave Spartan that made it back alive to tell the story. He later led an army of tenth of thousands to fight back against the Persians. This time, the Greeks outnumbered the Persians 3 to 1.

300

Well, if you’ve have known the history of the Battle of Thermopylae, you would have known that the movie has a sad ending. But nevertheless, it’s a touching and inspiring ending too. I give it a 9 out of 10 stars on my rating. Totally worth the RM10 I paid for the almost 2 hour long movie. Oh ya, to all the ladies, these Spartans got bod!

Grey’s 3AM Anatomy

While I’m waiting for season 6 of Smallville and episode 10 of Heroes to finish downloading, I’m currently whipping through Grey’s Anatomy… till 3 AM in the morning.

I gotta work late tonite but there’s still another hour before I get those emails sent to me. So what can I do for the next hour? I watch Grey’s Anatomy and I kinda like it so far. I’m only through episode 3 for now but it’s getting really interesting. Although medical stuff isn’t my cup of tea but since I’ve got nothing to do for now, why not check out some good looking doctors ripping out body parts.

Grey's Anatomy - Season 1

I’ve got 3 seasons to catch but I like what I’m watching so far. Yes, I meant Meredith and Izzie. They are both really hot! Besides that, every episode reminds me how important life can be and how we human beings take our health for granted. How sometimes I took my health for granted! That’s why I’ve decided not to smoke anymore! Life is too short for an extra puff of temporary sedation.

Grey's Anatomy - Casts

Now if you may excuse me, I’ve got 2 more seasons of Grey’s Anatomy to download.

Somebody Save Me

… I got hooked on SMALLVILLE! Yes I know, the series has been out ages ago but I only got to watch it recently. I was trying to finish up Sex and The City which I never did. Somehow I just lost interest in Jessica Parker… haha.

Smallville

Anyways, my latest craze is Smallville… or more like Lanaville! This TV series is really good…really, but the main actress is even better! I would say Tom Welling did a great job as the young Superman but it was Kristin Kruek that stole my heart in Smallville. Hehe.

I’m very sure many of you have done fifth season of Smallville by now so I’m not gonna bother telling you about the story. But I do, however wish to introduce the casts of Smallville. Check out below for the casts of Smallville:

We have …

Lana Lang in Smallville
Lana Lang, Lana Lang again… Lana here… there’s Lana again and Lana too… and and.. hmm…more Lanas!

Yes! Lana Lang is young Clark Kent’s sweetheart back in Smallville. But then again, there’s Chloe… which is quite hot looking too. These two hot chics will be around for the next 4 seasons… until Louis Lane appears.

There’s no reason why not to love Lana especially when she’s got a hot bod! You gotta check out Lana’s hot bod!

Lana in Season 1

For those who haven’t started watching Smallville, don’t ask me in which season is this. Not telling! You gotta go watch it yourself. Trust me… it’s worth it!

Since I started watching late, I’ve been watching it late too… I mean late at night. Can’t help it if I’m always out. I’ve only got the series up to Season 4. Anyone out there with Season 5?

Save Me (Smallville Theme Song) Lyrics
Remy Zero Lyrics

I feel my wings have broken
In your hands
I feel the words unspoken
Inside
When they pull you under
And I would give you any thing you want
You were all I wanted
All my dreams are falling down
Crawling round and round and round

Somebody save me
Let your waters break right through
Somebody save me
I don’t care how you do it
Just save, save
Come on
I’ve been waiting for you

I see the world has folded in your heart
I feel the waves crash down inside
And they pull me under
And I would give you anything you want
You were all I wanted
All my dreams have fallen down
Crawling round and round and round

Somebody save me
Let your waters break right through
Somebody save me
I don’t care how you do it
Just save, save
Come on
I’ve been waiting for you

All my dreams are on the ground
Crawling’ round and round and round

Somebody save me
Let your waters break right through
Somebody save me
I don’t’ care how you do it
Just save me, save me
I’ve made this whole world shine for you
Just save, save
Come on
I’m still waiting for you

Grease - It’s just not worth!

We were there and it was not quite what we expected. Actually, it’s more like a big let down. The long awaited Grease - the musical held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC too) last night was a total flop. We didn’t quite like it not just because the sound system sucks, it’s because we did not enjoy ourselves at all. Musicals are suppose to be fun and exciting but those elements just weren’t adequate.

We got that early, early enough to grab some bites over at KL Convention Centre’s foodcourt. Food that are reasonably affordable and kinda good too. The ladies were all so excited and Izan was already in ‘greasy’ mood, singing and dancing everywhere!

Amelia ordered 2 large fries and surprisingly we managed to finish everything.

We took like an excalator and 3 stairways to get to the 3rd floor only to find out there’s a lift just beside our entrance gate…bummer… but atleast we get to burn off those fries we took in at the foodcourt.

Once we’re in the hall, the place is kinda nice and we were like sitting way up high above and right in the center of the hall and with a good view too.

The RM150 ticket. Alright, it’s not the best seat in town but it’s was a good buy because we got a discount using SBB card.

It’s pretty far away from the stage but we can see everything.

My lady colleagues (from left) : Norizan, Diana, Jenn and Belinda.

Alrite, the performance was ok but not good enough.

But once the show started, it was all shoo bop be doo bop FLOP! Honestly, we had more fun drinking at the bar opposite of KLCC.

We had some drinks over at Oswega Bar & Wine inside of Impiana Hotel.

Take a sneak preview of the ending if you like but be warned! File loading can be quite slow.

Awesome Foursome

I’ve been hearing quite a lot of negative feedbacks and reviews about the movie Fantastic Four from certain people especially from my pet sis Radiance. Being a 70’s child, I was brought up worshipping these heroes. They are every children’s superheroes. Even after all the bad feedbacks, I still wanted to watch the movie…and I did.

I watched it with my girlfriend Julea over at Pacific Megamall Cineplex and we loved it. Enough said.

Seriously, the whole plot and CG of the movie may not be the best but it’s the live of these superheroes that counts. Bringing them alive on the silver screen totally brings back my childhood moments. I’ve always wish to be a superhero like them. I’ll leave the story telling to the real pros…

The story as laid out in the film version of the “Fantastic Four” follows Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd), a brilliant but broke scientist and his good buddy Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) as they go against everything they know is right and ask Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon) for help with an experiment that’s sure to make them all rich and famous – or even wealthier and more famous in the case of Von Doom.

The backstory that’s quickly laid out in the opening moments of the film lets us uninitiated “Fantastic Four? viewers in on the secret that Von Doom’s beautiful assistant, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), once had a relationship with Richards before determining that he was just like most men (yes, that’s a snide remark but I couldn’t resist). Reeds spoke without thinking and didn’t pay enough attention to their relationship so now she’s moved on to the handsome Von Doom, a narcissistic businessman who in all honesty cares for her less than he cares for his mirror. I’m dwelling on the relationship aspect of the storyline as that’s basically what the film’s all about. Sure there are special effects, and there’s the requisite bad guy who needs to be dealt with, but the movie’s really all about …

Some of my young friends didn’t appreciate the movie at all. Problem is not the movie, it was them and in fact most of the youngsters today. Most of these ‘young critics’ were not even born yet to appreciate the Fantastic Four.

The very first superhero team book Marvel put out was Fantastic Four #1, which came out in 1961.
