… up Mt Kinabalu.

Ok, don’t be silly, she’s not doing anything unlawful. In fact, she’s doing us proud…at least I am.

My niece Tash Tan is climbing up Mt. Kinabalu for WAO (Woman’s Aid Organisation of Malaysia). Tash or Natasha and her teammates, codenamed Team Boleh will be scaling up the peak of Mt. Kinabalu this coming Aug 3-4.

Just 17 and they have already embarked on a mission to help women and children who are victims of violence. Wow, I AM really really proud of her.

You rock girls! We support you girls all the way!

Teens to climb Mt Kinabalu for WAO

PETALING JAYA: They are just 17, but childhood friends Ng Yan Mei, Stephanie Robinson and Tash Tan have already embarked on a mission to help women and children who are victims of violence.

The trio, calling themselves Team Boleh, will be scaling Mt Kinabalu on Aug 3-4 to raise funds for the Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO).

Briton Stephanie, the leader of the team, said they chose Mt Kinabalu because it was close to home and is South-East Asia’s highest peak. (Stephanie’s parents live in Malaysia as her businessman father Steve Robinson is based here.)

“We have decided to climb our own mountain for women who climb mountains every day,? said Stephanie, referring to the obstacles faced by victims of domestic violence.

CAN-DO SPIRIT: The girls (from left)Tash, Stephanie and Yan Mei, who call themselves Team Boleh, will begin their climb on Aug 3.

For Yan Mei, raising funds for WAO was a special experience as it was her grandfather, the late Tun Tan Siew Sin, who started the organisation more than two decades ago.

As for Tash, the feat was her platform to begin doing charity work.

The girls said they had picked WAO as their beneficiary because they wanted to raise awareness towards ending violence against women.

Those interested in supporting the girls’ initiative can send their contributions to Women’s Aid Organisation, P.O. Box 493, Jalan Sultan, 46760 Petaling Jaya or call 03-7957 5636/0636.
