Google Chromecast, Why You Need It

July 26, 2013 by Galvin Tan in Technology with 0 Comments

Just a day ago, Google unveiled Chromecast, a dongle-like device that streams your internet media from your smartphones and tablets to a HDTV. Now the big hoo-ha is not so much of the technology, but rather for the price tag of the device. I must say, it’s pretty hard to ignore it when it is priced at $35 (approx. RM105).

Simply by plugging Chromecast into any HDTV, connect it to WiFi, you can immediately send videos and more from your smartphone, tablet or laptop to your TV with the press of a button.

For those who have got a HDTV at home, you may want to consider getting Chromecast. The fact that it is at such affordable price, you should consider getting one even if you’ve already got a Smart TV at home simply for two reasons, Typing and Control.

While most Smart TV comes with a remote control, you’ll still need to have good finger maneuvering skill with the remote just to get your favourite YouTube video running. Keying is search with the arrow keys with one letter at a time is not exactly very smart. Even if you have a Samsung Smart TV with Smart Motion control (hand-gesture control), waving your arms around in the air trying to key in your search, again with one letter at a time doesn’t make you look any smarter too.

But if you’ve got Chromecast, you can simply search and run your favourite YouTube video from your smartphone or tablet and then switch it over to your HDTV. Is there any other reason why you shouldn’t be getting one? I’ll probably be getting one when it is made available here in Malaysia.

Chromecast Plug-in
Chromecast is compatible with all WiFi-enabled Android 2.3+ smartphones and tablets; iOS 6.0+ iPhones, iPads, and iPods; Chrome for Mac® and Chrome for Windows®; and Chromebook Pixel.
